Help Center
Welcome to the PatentLingo Help Center. Here's everything you need to translate a patent document and get back a translation.
Quick Start Guide
1. Upload your draft
Upload your patent text as a docx (Word) file. Simply drag and drop the file or click to browse.
Supported formats:
- docx — the only format supported today; other formats (PDF, XML) and layout-preserving output are planned
2. Preview for free, see the price
Before you pay, you can preview a free translation of the first portion of the document — no signup required. Pricing is tiered by Chinese character count: up to 5,000, up to 10,000, up to 20,000, up to 50,000 characters, with a per-5,000-character rate beyond that. See the pricing page for current tiers.
3. Choose Auto mode or Assisted mode
- Auto mode: the default — everything automatic, straight to a translation.
- Assisted mode: for translators and agents who want to review and adjust the domain input, glossary and translation guidance before the full run. Assisted mode is priced at 1.5x the Auto-mode price.
4. Pay and translate
After checkout, the full document is translated block by block, referencing the glossary and translation guidance, with real-time progress.
5. Download your translation
Once complete, download the translation file. Delivery today is UTF-8 text; docx layout-preserving output is planned.
Frequently Asked Questions
What file formats are supported?
Only docx (Word) patent drafts are supported today. Other formats are not yet available.
How long does translation take?
It depends on the length of the document and the mode you choose. You can track progress in real time during translation.
How is pricing calculated?
One price per tier, based on Chinese character count — not a subscription and not billed per word. You always see the price before you upload. See the pricing page for the current tiers.
What is Assisted mode?
Once unlocked with payment, Assisted mode lets you review and adjust, in order: the identified technical domain, the extracted glossary, and the translation guidance, before the full translation runs. It costs 50% more than Auto mode for the same document.
Who owns the copyright of my translation?
You retain all rights to your document. We only use your file to produce your translation and do not redistribute or reuse your content. Please only upload documents you have the right to translate.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, under the conditions in our Refund Policy — for example if the service fails to deliver a working translation. Read the full policy for details.
Which languages are supported?
We support major language pairs and are expanding coverage. The available source and target languages are shown when you upload your document.
Is my draft kept private?
Yes. Your file is used only to produce your translation and is handled according to our Privacy Policy.
